The New York Atlatl Association, Inc. is a not-for-profit corporation chartered by the State of New York with Internal Revenue Service tax exempt status under 501(c)(7).  NYAA, Inc. was organized during the winter of 2005-2006, and received its certificate of incorporation on 29 September 2006.  NYAA, Inc. is governed by a Board of Directors whose officers are annually elected by the membership and whose trustees are selected representatives of the five regional affiliate member groups; the Chautauqua Spears, the Genesee Valley Atlatl Association, the Niagara Frontier Atlatl Association, renegade atlatl, and the Tyoga Atlatl Association.

The primary mission of the New York Atlatl Association, Inc. is dedicated to advancing the primitive throwing device, the atlatl, through the sponsorship of competitive atlatl events, demonstrations and instruction, archeological research on the atlatl in New York State, an awards program, and the promotion of atlatl hunting in New York State.  NYAA, Inc. sponsors twelve yearly atlatl competitions hosted by individual members and affiliate member groups throughout New York State, and sponsors a summer team atlatl league season for the affiliate member groups.  A New York State Atlatl Championship is also annually sponsored by NYAA, Inc.  The New York Atlatl Association, Inc. extends liability protection and insurance coverage to atlatl competitions it sponsors in New York State at no cost to the individual member(s) or to the affiliate member group(s) hosting the event(s).

Membership in NYAA, Inc. is open to any person with an interest in the atlatl.  NYAA, Inc. does not discriminate on the basis of gender, race, ethnicity, religious beliefs, or any other factor in determining membership.
