3. The Lamoka Award A plaque given each year to an individual or to individuals who have had a major influence on the development and growth of the sport of atlatl. Award recipients do not have to be a member of NYAA, Inc. to receive the award. The Lamoka Award will be issued by the President at the annual fall meeting. The Lamoka Award is a service award rather than an achievement award. The primary emphasis should, therefore, not be based upon performance in competition, but rather based on the promotion of the sport of atlatl. Some criteria should include, but not be limited to, the organizing and staging of atlatl events, demonstrations conducted and instruction given, the conducting of workshops, the formation of and service to local atlatl groups, and service to NYAA, Inc. Such other criteria as the committee may deem necessary can also be considered. A yearly Lamoka Award selection committee will be appointed by the NYAA, Inc. Board of Directors. The committee will accept and review nominations from the membership, and select from the nominees a recipient or recipients. (The 2008 Lamoka Award Committee includes Bill Brundage, renegade atlatl; Scott VanArsdale, TAA; Douglas Bassett, GVAA). The funding for the award will come from the NYAA, Inc.
