HISTORY OF NYAA, INC.

Rodger Klindt first formed a New York Atlatl Association during the mid- to late-1990's.  However, the  group eventually went inactive.

In the summer of 2005 Douglas Bassett revived a New York State Atlatl Championship, which led to renewed interest in forming a state organization.  During the winter of 2005-2006 Linda Brundage, Scott VanArsdale, and Douglas Bassett organized a new state organization - The New York State Atlatl Association.

The organization officially became The New York Atlatl Association, Inc. on 29 September 2006 when it was chartered as a tax-exempt not-for-profit corporation by the State of New York.

The 1st NYAA New York State Atlatl Championships were held in June 2006 at Wellsville, NY hosted by the Genesee Valley Atlatl Association.

In 2007 NYAA, Inc. established two official competition formats for state championships and two exhibitions.  The 2nd NYAA, Inc. New York State Atlatl Championships were held in August 2007 at West Almond, NY hosted again by the Genesee Valley Atlatl Association.
